What is BIO-PLY™?

BIO-PLY™ is an orthobiologic, or a treatment for orthopedic injuries made using factors naturally found in horse platelets. BIO-PLY uses the same basic principle as platelet rich plasma (PRP), which concentrates the healing capacity of platelets into an injection, with a few key differences. BIO-PLY removes every part of the platelet except the most bioactive proteins, which creates a potent product that has no barriers, not even the walls of the platelet, between the site of injury and the therapeutics it needs.

How does BIO-PLY™ work?

Our research has shown that BIO-PLY has multiple modes of action that make it a uniquely effective therapeutic. It’s not only a potent anti-inflammatory agent, but it also creates a healthier healing environment and is an effective, natural antimicrobial (antibiotic) agent.

Why is BIO-PLY™ better than what comes from my horse?

When an orthobiologic is created from your own horse, several factors can result in the product being inactive. Your horse may have lower levels of certain proteins that are helpful to healing, especially if you have an older horse. The BIO-PLY™ processing methods have several checkpoints, or quality control measures, to ensure an active product. By combining the BIO-PLY of multiple young, healthy horses we limit the variability of the protein levels and create a more potent, effective product.

What can BIO-PLY™ be used for?

BIO-PLY can be used for a variety of musculoskeletal injuries including osteoarthritis, infected joints, fracture repair, tendon injuries, and torn ligaments.

Does BIO-PLY™ have FDA approval?

BIO-PLY is currently undergoing the FDA approval process. In addition, BIO-PLY has been selected for the FDA-CVM’s Veterinary Innovation Program. This is a rigorous process that will ensure BIO-PLY is safe and effective for use in your horse. Once this process is complete, BIO-PLY will be the first orthobiologic approved by the FDA.

How do you know BIO-PLY™ is safe if it is not yet FDA approved?

Shockingly, some of the most popular products currently on the market to treat orthopedic injuries in horses are not FDA approved and do not have strong, published research proving their safety and efficacy. However, at Qentoros, we’re not happy with that status quo. We have rigorous quality control to ensure each unit of BIO-PLY is potent. To date, BIO-PLY has not caused any adverse reactions and has been successful in treating a variety of injuries and infections. We are continuing to investigate BIO-PLY in clinical trials before we advertise them to you.

How can I purchase BIO-PLY™?

Since BIO-PLY is currently undergoing the FDA approval process, it is not available for purchase at this time. However, if you are interested in BIO-PLY, your horse might qualify for participation in one of our clinical trials. Please contact your veterinarian or Qentoros if you are interested in signing up for a clinical trial.

How do you manage the horses that donate blood to create BIO-PLY™?

We take immense pride in our donor herd and treat them with the greatest respect and care. We rescue off the track thoroughbreds and do extensive testing to ensure they have nothing that could be transmitted through blood products to protect your horse. Our horses receive daily grooming, regular vet care and farrier work, and blankets during the winter. We are grateful for their contribution to science and the greater horse community and are very careful during the donation process to ensure it is a positive experience for them.
